Hant or haint, both of which are variations of the word "haunt". It's used mostly in the South, but refers to a ghost of a person of any race.

Maybe you are thinking of "spook", which is a synonym for ghost, and a derogative term for a living black person.

There are several Cajun dictionaries online you might look through.

Are you thinking of the word "haint"? It's a southern term for "ghost" but has nothing to do with race.
