The most effective way to remove brush and ivy is to use an active ingredient called TRICLOPYR, which can be found in several products such as "Brush-B-Gone" or "Brush-Killer" at most of your local hardware stores. It was made specifically to control hard-to-kill plants and I've found it most effective in removing poison oak, blackberries, ivy, etc. I'd recommend you use a back-pack sprayer or some other sprayer that can disperse the mixture a distance so that you can achieve uniform coverage of the entire plant.

Triclopyr works very similar to Roundup but it controls ONLY your broad-leaved plants. You can use the product to control dandelions, clover, spurge, etc in your lawn and it can be mixed with "Weed-B-Gone" to enhance its performance.

Make sure you protect your ornamentals from any of the spray and not to spray when it's windy...otherwise you'll kill your ornamental plants, vegetables and trees. Make sure you read the label before spraying.

Hope this was of some help to you. GOOD LUCK!

"Roundup" or a poison ivy specific defoliant. Read the label and follow the directions. A propane powered foliage burning wand would work but you risk breathing poison ivy fumes that could damage your lungs. Poison Ivy seeds are spread mostly by birds ingesting them and defecating them elsewhere so the original source could be far away.

if you are in a area were burning is allowed then burn it at a very high intensity make a burn pile i or around it to make sure it burns very hot and make sure it burns all the way to the soil just before winter or early fall when the seeds are exposed but be careful not to start a big fire that time a year and get a permit if needed in your area

DO NOT BURN IT...NEVER EVER!!! Do not even burn it after it's shriveled up and died from the weed killer! Good lord you will kill us all!
Carefully and I mean CAREFULLY use Roundup or some other similar weed killer.
Make sure you pull out the ENTIRE root (it will just pop up somewhere else) and watch for signs of new growth in the spring--pull it out while still small (wear gloves).
