I'm guessing I need to measure the height, width, and depth, but then what do I do with those figures?

or you can just grab an empty milk carton (gallon size), fill it up and pour it into the tank and count however many you need...

That will tell you the volume of the tank in linear measurements but you must look in the dictionary or a math textbook to find oout what a gallon of water measures then convert the numbers. The easiest is to get a gallon jug and count how many it takes to fill it.

Try filling your fishtank to the brim and then drain the fish tank, seriously, take your measurements of the tank and phone the petshop and ask them how many gallon tank that is, or you can do multiplications as the previous answer suggests

Then go to any conversion site and type in the figure here is any old link I checked and it worked fine.
