Are the people nice? How is general transportation? Is a car an absolute necessity in Prague? Thanks for any comments you may have

i have lived in Prague my whole life, as a native. Rather than car being absolute necessity, it is right on the contrary - public transporation is relatively good, so judging by how you asked the question, forget about that issue and about car, at least at the beginning. you may not find the people nice (at least not all of them), while they may find you insincere in a way. you know - the politeness and sweetness that is just on the surface has not much tradition here. it was your first question so if you are coming, so the thing is not to decide whether they are nice or not, but be informed in advance of the situations where you can expect some coldness, then you would not be surprised by it and think badly of the rest of us - like the police is generally not very smiling and friendly, we all know it and we dont expect more.

taxidrivers may ask more than the meter should read and you may be bumped into by a well-trained pickpocket gang in some routes of the public transport - they virtually hunt for foreigners. that is the essential warning that i give to foreigners. but still i dont think Prague is the only place in the world where this can happen, is it?

you will sure love the city itself, if you come. you will find friends that you will value a lot. You are of course most welcome to email me and ask me any questions that you have. remember i live right in the city, so that is it. If you are coming, i am sure you will like it.

I live in the Czech Republic, although not in Prague. I used to work there though. Public transport is really good. There is an underground and trams and busses, so you can get around pretty easily and you rarely have to wait more than just a few minutes. I think it's actually better to not use a car in Prague, the traffic is horrible. Public transport is generally better.

The people... you'll just have to judge for yourself.

I think Prague is a nice place to live if you're used to living in big cities. It's a very nice city.
