I am an Chinese girl and I am going to France to stay with my French friend for 1 month. She told me Caucasians like tanning and darker skin so they always go sunbathing. When I say I dont want to get tanned. She said I am strange. She doesnt seem to understand Chinese why we (at least some of us) dont want to get tanned. How can I make her understand me??? What should I say???

I'm a Chinese girl. I tell Caucasians that their skin turns healthy brown after tanning; but we Asians have different skin textures and our skin turns brownish yellow after sunbathing, which is not a healthy color.

This is kind of a strange question, in my opinion. Do you even know why you don't do sun tanning?? If you do, just be frank and explain to your friends. If you don't know why you don't do sun tanning, maybe you need to understand why first before saying no to people.

Tell her tanning causes skin cancer and you have no desire to get this and have a doctor remove them and leave scars all over your body. But if she wants to bask in the sun and risk looking like a great big pockmark, go for it.

Are you sure she is truely your friend?
If she is just be honest and upfront with her as a friend she'll respect you for it and will obey to your wish.

well you can tell her you've got a sensitive skin and you can't stand so much sun exposure....lol...but ..uhmm...just be honest to her..be frank..tell her it's just not your thing...she'll understand you eventually...
