Go into the Device Manger (Strart > Control Panel > System Icon > Hardware tab > Device Manager).
Find the USB section of the hardware listing
Click the little + in fron of the USB section to open the listing
Right click on every device in the list and uninstall them all (as I have no way of guessing which USB port is hung)
Reboot the PC and it will clear all information about the USB devices and reinstall them (Since the drivers are already on your PC you can not damage anything by doing this or should not have to reload drivers)
Once the USB ports have been detected, replug the drive and the PC should detect and load it.

Support a site with GX620s and W2000, and do this about 3-4 times a week for my clients.

Install the drivers for the Windows 2000 for the said device and then connect the device to the system.

Have you checked your BIOS? If BIOS is turn USB off then this would happen if not then have you installed service pack 4. If you dont have service pack 4 for windows 2000 you will have that trouble.

Oh man, just get XP- tis the FIRST Windows OS that actually works with drivers, like Macs have for years!
