hey first install a anti-virus software like nortan. find and delete all viruses in ur computer. then install sound drive once again by inserting your motherboard cd. after that if u hav any problems, format all your drive(keep backups in a different drive) then install your os and insert ur motherborad cd and install all including sound drive.

No you didn’t have 80 viruses. You might have had one or a couple and a bunch of spyware.

You need a driver for your sound card.

Your sound card may be built on your mother board or it may be a separate item. It would be inside your computer regardless.

If it is a name brand computer go to lengths to write down the specific model and do a search on the internet for drivers for that particular model (typically the manufacturerer).

If it is not a name brand, go to Start menu > Run and enter: devmgmt.msc

Once you hit the OK button you will be looking at the device manager. Click on the + next to the Sound, Video and Game controllers

If you see a red “X” on anything that means you are missing your driver or it’s corrupted.

As a long shot you might be able to click on the item with the red X and fiddled around until you find a page that has a button that says, “Update Driver…”

You can click on that to retrieve a new driver but chances are you won’t be successful. You really need a computer geek doing this.

Ever card in a system needs a piece of software to run it. These pieces of software are referred to as drivers. Your sound card is missing the drivers for it and Windows does not have one built in.

You try and search the Internet for the correct driver, but you first need to know what sound card is in your system.

Go to a download site, like major geeks, and search for a program called: Aida32.

This program will show you everything in your computer, hardware and software.

Then you can go to a site that has drivers, again search google there are a lot of them, or the maker of you sound card's web site and download and install the driver your self.

Don't worry about installing sound drivers, if you get the wrong one, nothing will break if you install it.

One NOTE though, sound drivers are about the only driver that you can install the wrong version and nothing should go wrong.

Its all about drivers.

You have a sound card, probably built into your motherboard. To use the sound card the operating system needs a driver.
You should have had some CD's that came with the computer. These CD's will have been kept in a safe place! One of these CD's will contain a sound driver.
