ANY and ALL the above! :)

Apparently, they either don't know Google/Yahoo Search/Ask.com exists, or they know but just don't understand how to use it, or they just want to see if anyone else comes up with what they do!

I do understand the questions about finding people...only through the experience I had last year, did I find out how to truly "find" friends and classmates on the web, during HOURS, DAYS, MONTHS of research for my high school reunion. It's tedious at best, but I'm an expert at it now...so those I answer when I see them pop up. As for the questions that are a "google away"....sometimes I look it up for them...it not only gives me something to do, but it's a challenge too. That's probably why I'm never "first to answer" on most of the questions I answer! :)

Ah well, the price we pay to be accurate and always right! :)

Doesn't have to be any of the above.. On some questions you could spend hours on google and not find what your looking for.. Yes there is the same possibility here but if you use both resources you'll have a better chance finding the answer. And maybe someone else will think of something you didn't.

People who ask questions here aren't searching for an easy answer. Just the opposite, I think they are tired of the sterile lists of crap they get from search engines. They want a human perspective, the knowledge that their questions are being answered not by a heartless computer crunching the bytes of their lives into a paste of normality, but an answer from the masses of soccer moms, dropouts, doctors, rocket scientists, cashiers, waitresses, electricians, carpenters, drunks, songwriters, artists, and everyone else who gives half a damn about their fellow man.

Google only states one opinion. When people ask questions here they get a variety of opinions and can choose the best one or a combination of them.
Why are you asking a question you should have "Googled" it to get an answer

Because some answers are not Black and white, yes or no...Sometime it's nice to get a feel for what people think. Not just the mechanical google answer.

Maybe, all the above or just some. I enjoy people and their different perspectives. Some of the questions and answers broadens my consciousness. And, I just like giving my opinion.

(B) and (D) in that questioners want social interaction and to make people think while still getting appropriate information. This is a fun way to know more compared to "Googling" the information, which is efficient albeit dull.

It's different to get answers from real people aside from getting through sources in the net. They also want to increase their points --isn't the reason why Yahoo! implemented point system so that everyone will be encouraged to answer.

Good question... I guess Yahoo is trying to bring a human face to the search Engine :-)
