I would put about 9,750 pounds in the bank, then get the rest in notes, and have the best week of my life. E.g. Day 1, spend a wad at Gameworks (2 story arcade/pub near where I live) one night, treat some girl to a fancy dinner the next, maybe an IMAX on day 3, and use the rest of the notes to try and get my name into a few writing circles. The rest could collect interest and support the odd luxurious nights out for a long time.

Blow a thousand on lottery tickets and spend the winnings on clat :¬)
then I'd invest the remaining 9 thousand in Premium bonds for at least a year before deciding what to do with the money
Although there is no interest paid on Premium Bonds you are entered into the monthly prize draw.A guy at work inherited £15,000 and has so far won over £8,500 in prizes.
Incidentally I have £1000 invested and have won nothing :¬/

Invest as much as possible with the National Savings & Investments (NS&I). This is a bank operated by the government and backed by the Queen. This means you'll never lose what you invest because the Queen is obliged to pay it bak to you! Plus they have competitive interest rates and a range of investment products for everyone, AND, no I don't work for them, I'm just a very happy customer!

Invest in setting up a business. Plenty of good cheap ideas to get you making money if you have a few hundred.
With 10k you could set up multiple business's though time might be a bit short ;)

I would put half away for college first. Then, ten percent for some charity probably. ummm... that's 6,000 down... the rest would be for a nice trip to Europe and fixing up the house.

Yeah that figure is not that much in today's expensive world. I would pay off some debts and take a week off from work. That would do it.
