practice.
do ALL the homework, not just parts of it.
Look for ways in real life to practice & use what you are learning in math.
Find someone better at math than you to bring you up to speed on the areas you aren't good in.

I'm a math teacher/tutor. I suggest the following:
* Get a few workbooks from an education bookstore.
* Understand the concepts. It's not enough to just practice the processes. You need to know how and when to use the formulae and what they mean.
* Bring math into your world. Try to relate the work to things you're interested in. For example, you are probably going to start geometry in the fall--notice the geometry around you.

Practice exercises for an hour every day, just like a violin student practices musical exercises. Show clearly how each problem is solved, step by step. When away from home, instead of entertaining yourself with a game or your ipod, look for quick math practices to do in your head. Like if it's 2.6 miles to the store at what point are you 25% of the way home? If your family car gets 24 mpg, how many gallons does it get to go to the store and back? At $2.74 a gallon, how much will that cost? And so on. Math is all around you. Dive into it every chance you get, just like the violin student is doing fingering exercises on the edge of his notebook even when doesn't have his violin with him.

You can get involved with a tutoring program at your school if there is one. You can just get a tutor or ask your teacher for extra help. But the best thing to do is practice the problems and study extra for tests.

well, practice makes perfect so you should continue doing problems sums. buy a revision book to practice on. and try to do more mental sums. for example, if you're on the road, and you see a license plate number, try to add up all the numbers in your head.
this helps cause in exams, you'll save time by adding stuff in your head instead of doing your workings on paper.
oh ya, you know there are some formulas to remember that are important in exams, write all the formulas on paper and paste it on your wall, that way you'll see it everyday and can memorise it well.

Just work away.

The better you are at anything, the more you enjoy it.

The math "geniuses" in your class are good enough that they do math for fun so they get all the better at it. Nobody sees them doing math problems and everbody just assumes that they are geniuses.
