I dont know what the deal is, but I can be in the middle of browsing the internet, playing online poker, or just writing something in MS Word and every once and a while my whole laptop will just shut itself off. Sometimes it will power right back on when I hit the power button, other times it will start to reboot, but then just turn off again.

I would really like to figure out what the heck is going on but Toshiba customer service is terrible & since my computer isn't covered under warranty anymore, they won't even help me without trying to charge me for it.

Has anyone else had this issue? Is there a quick fix? Any of you computer people have any ideas what the problem could be???

I have one friend who says he thinks it's because my processor is too slow, but that doesn't make sense to me because sometimes it will work & run just fine for hours and other times (Even if Im doing the exact same thing) it will only go 15-20 minutes and then turn itself off. Any ideas anyone?

When exactly this problem occur?

It's very random. Day or night. If the computer has been for three hours or twenty minutes. Sometimes it doesn't shut itself off on me.

What was the last thing that your doing before you had this problem?

It doesn't seem to matter what I'm doing, as I have had it just shut down on me doing just about everything you can do on a laptop. (Internet, poker, MS Word, etc...)

I assumed that the system hasn't been dropped or been damaged?

You assume correct. I've taken good care of it, but it is older. I've probably had it for 5 years now.

Have you try to clean the fans?

No. That might be a good idea, but I just don't know how to do it. I'd be fearful of opening my computer up because I'm not exactly tech savvy & I'd hate to make things worse.

What is the version of your BIOS?

I'm sorry, but like I said, I'm not very tech savvy. In fact, I don't even know what BIOS stands for. Sorry.

I'm a toshiba technician... with this problem there are lot of things that I could consider...

If you want I would ask for the serial no of the system to check the specifications as well but I would also like to gather information about this problem.

My Toshiba does a similar element if unattended (untouched) for greater beneficial than 20 minutes or so. Toshiba say that's a secure practices characteristic. If it turns off in case you're extremely employing it, this is a fault and you need to touch Toshiba on their internet site. you will desire the serial selection and kind selection (on the backside of your workstation)

the lap top could be overheating, and shutting itself off protects it from melting. usually happens with older laptops, or ones that are used a lot. it could also be a power supply/battery problem.
