In some areas like Philosophy there is no such thing as a "correct" answer. However, when referring to scientific and historical facts, there is...or at least there are definitely wrong answers. I wonder if there is a point in answering questions on this site if people simply go with what they want to hear and if such "distorted" choices will propagate/promote general misconceptions in science, history, etc, especially among students.

Because it IS what they want to hear or what they believe.

If someone already believes something strongly, they may not be able to even consider that there are other sides or that their side is not the objectively correct one.

Very few people are mature or enlightened enough to appreciate answers or information that they don't want to hear. But some people ARE able to consider new information and to learn and to make there lives easier.

Some of the questioners in this site are looking for objective or experiential answers, some aren't. Do you want to keep the former group from learning because of the possible distortions of the latter group?

I choose the right fact. It doesnt matter if it is not i wnt to hear. I dont wish to mislead people into thinking that the wrong answer i picked is the right one. Yahoo Answers serve as a net to allow us to learn new fact. Only shallow people choose what is liked instead of what is the correct choice, and i hope no one wishes to be like them. Choose the best answer out of all the good ones. Ignore the mistaken.

Its only a symptomatic indication of how people think in general. Most times people don't want to hear the truth because they just can't handle the truth.

As an expert in my particular industry people often ask me for my advice but they are really looking for my acceptance and support of what they already think.

As a hypothetical example they will ask me how they can make the color green. I will tell them they have to mix yellow and blue. Then they will ask, "But couldn't I do it with orange and lavender?" and then I will say, "Yellow and blue is the only way that will work" Then they will say, "But some guy across town said that I could do it and it should work"

They can choose to take or leave my advice but they often ask for my advice when they are really seeking my agreement.

As with everything, we must do the research for ourselves. I am sure no one will come to this site and take these answers as absolute fact without investigation. Some of the answers just give us something else to think about. There have been many answers that was really impressed with (more serious questions).

many people realize they have a problem but they may not be ready to listen to or read the thing that may be correct. it is a way of thinking that makes people make the same mistakes over and over because they don't learn from their own mistakes. If they don't learn from their own mistakes they certainly won't listen to other people tell them how they are doing something wrong or how to fix something going on to them. It is scary for most people to make changes in their life. Listening to other people is a big one. I even know that it is what people do and that it is hard, but I do it in some parts of my life also.

Some people just can't handle facts. They like it better when you made up little imaginary stories for them. That's why more people will choose myth over scientific and historical facts.

When I pick a best answer it is usually the one that sounds the most reasonable to me.
