We drink cold beer, not tea, and we don't suck limes! Is that what you wanted to hear? Yes, Independence means a lot. From any foreign power. You'll figure that out soon, with the EU!

The 4th still means a great deal to me and my family. It probably means more to us, as a military family, than it does to the general population. After all, my husband's job is to go and fight for this freedom that we worked and fought so hard to get so many years ago on this day. He risks his life fighting wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and who knows where he'll end up next. He's fighting these wars 7 months out of a typical year. How can it not be a special day for us? Especially since we actually get to celebrate it together this year!

I have off work everyday! :P But my husband has to work because he manages a store.

I usually just go to my parents for a BBQ or we have one here. When I was a kid we'd go see a display of fireworks. And I'll watch the concert at the Capitol in D.C. if it's not too cheesy.

I think the 4th means even more in this day and age. Before 911 it was cool to bash our own country and gov't, but after that incident and others around the world we became more united and most of us appreciate more what we have here.

Yes we are off work, it's a national holiday...however, some businesses choose to remain open so some people will have to work. Mostly service industry jobs like restaurants, hotels, shopping malls.

I don't think it quite means enough to most people.

I'm celebrating by sleeping in, doing some cleaning and having a family barbeque.

I'm a Brit working at General Motors and they're on a shutdown now but they still got union workers in doing nothing for $60 an hour.

I sure do have the day off. I am going to be on a boat, bar-be-queing steaks, having a beer and watching fireworks.
And yes, it does mean something to me still, in this day and age.
