Originally, Adam was all that was created. Adam represented all of humanity. However, God for the first time in Genesis declares something to not be good, and it is the fact that the man is alone. The woman was created as a "help-meet" for the man, a more modern translation of this term would be something like "life companion."
"Help-meet" does NOT point to a position of servitude or inferiority of woman. Anybody that says otherwise has simply not looked at the Hebrew and how the word is used in the rest of the Old Testament.

God created both man and woman for the purpose of procreation. In the theory of evolution, multi-celled organisms must create off springs by combining an egg cell from the female and a sperm cell from the male. Personally, I think God created Adam for Eve and not Adam for Steve nor Linda for Eve.

I find life to be very 50-50 oriented. I find 50 percent of the folks I meet are mean, nasty, and selfish. And the other 50 percent kind, generous, and friendly. So this 50-50 philosophy, I believe is the foundation of nature. Yet that's only a theory. I am absolutely clueless on the ways of God's logical.

There might be a slight issue with how to continue then, wouldnt it... how to create kids etc ??
If you would change the human so they are hermaphrodites, then you cant really compare them to men/women anymore....

Maybe this is too simple an answer but I believe He wanted us to multiply. You cannot multiply most living creatures without a male and female. Lower life forms have been known to recreat themselves but that is another topic

because you cant have one without the other ,procreation two women no children two men no children get the picture .thats why when homosexuals get together their not supposed to have children its natures way of saying that its not a good union
