A "b" is a child that is born of a woman that is unable to marry it's father. The child has no legal right to the inheritance of the father when the father dies. An illegitimate child not born into a covenant of marriage.

Literally speaking, it means an illegitimate person - a child born to an unmarried couple. This still applies even if the couple are living together.
Now, however, it's just used in the same way as 'git' or 'scum-bag!' as a brainless insult. People even say it to their own kids sometimes ... even when those kids are NOT illegitimate! People also call their electrical appliances "B@stard!" when they don't work properly!!

I suppose it more or less lost it's original meaning when it became acceptable to have children without bothering to get married first...!

From what I know it means a mother and father were not married when a baby was born, making the baby a B@stard.

The actual meaning is 'a person born to unmarried parents'.

A son with no father to claim him as his own. It's an insult, because it's like saying your moms a whore and your good for nothing because your father doesn't even want you. Almost like your not worth anything.
