Ihave a 1994 ford eddie bauer explorer with a JBL Factory system. I recently had my stereo stolen and they yanked on it and cut up the wires, and since then I bought a new one and they gave me a wire harness for the stereo but theirs not one to plug it into inside of my dash. All I need to know is the color codes for all the wires poking out and I can take it from their. Hopfully someone knows something that would help?. I sure would appreciate it!! Man getting robbed really bites.

On the JBL! factory system, they use non-standard wiring because of the use of factory amps and mulitple speaker locations. If you want to know the specifics, it is best to check with a pro-shop or have the factory harness clip re-installed at the dealership. The kick in butt is that the radio they stole from you is probably worthless to them because of it limited applications...

I have done some research for you. Below you will find the standard wiring diagram for you car (base sound) and also info on your upgraded (JBL!) package. Good Luck!

Standard Wiring:
Radio 12v lt. green/yellow + radio harness

Radio Ground black or black/lt. green - radio harness

Radio Ignition yellow/black + radio harness

Radio Illumination lt. blue/red (dimmer) + radio harness

Factory Amp Turn-on dk. blue + radio harness

Power Antenna N/A

LF Speaker +/- orange/lt. grn - lt. blue/wht +,- radio harness or amplifier

RF Speaker +/- white/lt. grn - dk. green/org +,- radio harness or amplifier

LR Speaker +/- pink/lt. green - tan/yellow +,- radio harness or amplifier

RR Speaker +/- orange/red - black/white +,- radio harness or amplifier

How do I know if my factory car stereo system has an amplifier?

There are a few ways to find out if your factory system has an amplifier system.

One way is to verify if your system has more than four speakers.

If it does it probably has an amplifier.

This will not always however, be the case.

You may also want to check with your factories owner's manual to see what type of system that you have.

You'll have to play with it awhile get your self a tester and try different stuff like having the ignition on but the car not running, then try with it completly off, then when the car is running.

Try getting a Hanes manual they normal give wiring diagrams in the back for that, or if you really suck at electrical wiring just take it to a pro car installer, may cost ya alittle more but atleast ya don't shock yourself or start your truck on fire!

Typically though the color codes run simular to this:
Red: Live (car running)
Yellow : constant (for clock)
Blue : Lead to sub or amp
Black : Ground
any color combos are definatly speaker leads with that you'll just have to play with it!

Good Luck!!!!

if u pull out the stock audio deck urself.. it's very hard to find which wire is which if u cut them all... unless u at a car yard.. usually the red one is for electricity ACC, yellow for battery and black for ground.. and u should have another 8 wires for 4 speakers if the car has 4..... total 11 wires... and there are 2 other small wires for ur amp and the rest im not sure.... u should mark each wire and label them before u cut the wires from ur old deck so when u put new one in u dun need to test each wires for each speakers.. coz they take soo long time

If you cut the red wire with pliers, the Explorer will spontaneously explode.
