i want serious history, preferably sports cars

The best place is the library where you will find old megazines and books. I have found that over the 15 years the history of cars has changed drasticaly because of the internet and you dont get the real facst as many people who are fanatics of a specific type of vehicle, post stuff that is not true and unless you search your self or are an old timer you wont know.
