Are we truly descending constantly or are morals just on an up-and-down rollar coaster? Keep in mind of times like the 20's (somewhat low morals) and the 50's (somewhat high morals).

OUR MORALS IN CURRENT TIMES are not as high as in the 50's. Our values have come down to a compromising level. Blame it to the New age movement that believes on the motto: "IF IT FEELS GOOD THEN DO IT"

What is moral and what is immoral is a debatable issue. What made you say that people at 20's and 50's are higly morale ? I guess what you're trying to point is how conservative people are before. Yeah..it changes over time. With new technology like personal phones and gadgets that really influenced today's generation. But we can not measure if it descends or ascends because some people still stick with traditional things..which for me is not so bad. Most of the time, moral is something that the person thinks is right and what is acceptable by the society he/she belongs to. If for instance, for him it is immoral to have a sexual relationship outside marriage while in some parts of the world..it is okay then where the morality lies now? Just trying to explain. I hope i made my point there ;) God bless!

As you stated about the 1920s and 1950s there is nothing truly new under the sun. In our current time I would say there is a lack of identifiable morals in society because of relativism. You may ask "what is that" and I would say it is the "religion" taught in schools today that there are no absolutes and that morals depend on many things like culture, time, etc.
But are not we fooling ourselves? Some will say there are many grey areas in life. True enough! But are you going to live life in the grey areas of the unknown or are you going to live knowing the difference between right and wrong?
It is said that we have two paths in life or two roads to choose from. I say there are three. There is the right, wrong and sitting on the fence. Some of you christians out there may know what I am talking about. Did not Jesus say that He would rather us be bad or good but it makes Him sick to see us straddle the fence. To straddle the fence of life is to know what truly causes the ills of society. Someone once said "the people perish because a good man will not stand for what he believes. What do you believe?

how about the level of morals has always been about the same, but that it just wasn't talked about or publiciized in any way. Well anyhow, they current moral values are shot to hell. excuse the pun. but when there are more people on the earth there is bound to be less morals also, there is a balance to everything. When there is something very good there is always going to be something equally bad. it is the law of nature. sometimes things get out of balance, but they eventually always balance out. right now I do think us humans are a little out of balance towards the less "moral" side, but not by much.

morals, defined as the standards of a society, change over time. for example in the Bible we can read in the early chapters about human and animal sacrifice. over time the morals of that culture changed and now human and animal sacrifice are no longer tolerated. also Polygamy used to be acceptable but eating shellfish and pork was not. so by early biblical standards a modern American with only one wife who goes out to eat at red lobster is immoral so that would imply that you are correct morals have fallen

I think morals change with what is acceptable by society. What was morally wrong 10 years ago is totally acceptable today. That doesn't mean it is right or wrong. Morals are as individual as what you believe in.

With every generation we become more lenient with what is acceptable. We may just be descending into nothing or descending to a point where we can rebuild a healthier society. We honestly won't know until we are there unless we always ask this question.

I think the world is going thru the worst phases of life time as far as morality is concerned and we are not left with any values. We are allowing anything and everything on the name of freedom of speech and the good part of it is that we all think that we are living in a modern world adopting such policies...

i disagree that the 20s were less moral than the 50s. my opinion is that people are using god and religion to be as amoral as they want. its bad today, you see that. beheadings, wars, murder, rape of young mormon girls, etc..... all these amoral things are done in the name of god. we need to teach morals to our children, not to be devout to some crazy cause or god in the sky.......
