Catholic or Anglican? I'm Anglican and in South Africa it's quit a story. I assume it will be similar in the UK. I spoke to my Priest first who then contacted the Diocese. I was interviewed by the ArchDeacon before I even started my studies. I am doing two subjects a year so it will take me 6 years to complete my studies. I am now in my second year. In the meantime I had to get a preachers licence which is more studying. But studying is only part of the training. I preach every 4 - 6 weeks, am on various committees and parish teams. My descernment started as soon as I spoke to the Arch Deacon. All ordinands have to be at each of the Church services and have to be a licenced Lay Minister. You're life has to be a testimony to your faith. Morning and Even Song are not optional. The work is hard, the hours and long and the pay is zero (until you're ordained then it's a piddly amount) but having done it now for two years it's the best thing I've ever done with my life. The fullfilment is out of this world! I doubt there's an easy way to go about this, after all God requires complete commitment. God bless.

The basic path?
Talk to a priest, because different brands of Christianity have different paths.
Generally speaking, though, those roads lead to a seminary, which is a specialized school for teaching new priests.
I doubt the specifics are much different in the UK.

Get ordained on the internet for free. Do a search for ordination free and you'll find a couple of churches who will do it for nowt.
I am in fact the Reverend Nik due to this!

First join the church of the priesthood you want to follow. Then go to their seminary.
