that can help. Since there seems to be at least a few intelligent people on here as compared to the time I am usually here, I have a problem with my comp. The cursor is translating almost every word I point at. It's not narrating, just translating. I have tried everything I can think of-Windows help, looking in the directory on this comp, asking people that I know, no one seems to know how to turn this function off. It's really beginning to annoy me, and people don't like me when I get annoyed. I have a tendency to want to sting them. Please keep some unfortunate soul from suffering a painful sting and possibly worse (if they happen to be allergic to scorpions) and help me with this problem. First person that can help me solve my problem gets 10 points. It would be worth more than that if I could give them just to get this %$%^&&&^^%%$$## thing to stop!!!!

sorry, I should have said--It is a Windows XP, and it isn't a virus. Somehow I turned it on and started the whole mess, now I can't figure out how to turn it off. It is translating into several languages, with Spanish being the most common. I know, I know-I'm an idiot-I'll swallow my pride and admit it.

It is in my original program from Dell that came installed on it, not one I downloaded.

OK I tried the windows logo/s thing, the control panel/mouse idea, I have already had to do a cold reboot previously, I have done everything I can think of short of a system reset. The problem with a reset is I'm not sure what, if any, info I might lose and this has been going on since about 2 weeks after I bought this comp (I've had it 3 months) so I am not sure what day I would have to reset to in order to stop this mess. I am about ready to chunk it in the river!

Excuse me,zarawhateveryournameis, if you had bothered to read the entire question, you would see that I am trying to solve a problem and have asked a legitimate question. Gaming for points is NOT what I am doing. Read the rules again.

and I really wanted to, I could report you on at least 3-insulting another participant, not a question or answer, and other-filing an unfounded abuse report. But since I am such a nice person, even in the face of such rudeness, I am not.

excuse me, the first line should be "and if I really wanted to"

Ok, well, darn, this is a little bit of a stumper lol. Ok, you say it's not narrating, but, translating? I was gonna actually say Voice settings, but, i just looked at that, and it's only speech to text, not the other way around.

The next thing i woulda suggested is to look at your mouse settings, but, that's got nothing in it.....

Next thing is to POSSIBLY check your accesibility options.

FilterKeys, ToggleKeys and StickyKeys should all be turned off in the keyboard tab. in the sound tab, make sure SoundSentry is unchecked and ShowSounds is checked (you can uncheck it if you want, but, these are my settings) High contrast in the display should be unchecked as well, and you can do whatever ya like with the curser blink rate. Under Mouse, MouseKeys should be unchecked.

Under the last tab, General, this is what should be unchecked. The only option under automatic reset should be unchecked. Same with the only option under SerialKeys.

And, if you wanna apply it to all users, check BOTH boxes under the administrative options.

God, i really do hope this helps, and if not, i hope ya get it fixed either way, cause i know what a pain in the A** it is lol. =)

EDIT: The last thing that you CAN do, if you don't get it solved is to do a system restore...say, to the point when it first began. So, say it started on the 1st of this month, anything AFTER that is ok. You will NOT lose anything...documents, music, files, etc...it's completely safe, and 100% reversable.

Just trying to get more information to narrow down your problem:

1. What applications are affected? You say that when you hover over something, it gives you a little pop-up window that translates. Does it do that only in Internet explorer, or also in other applications like your word processor?

2. Does it give you several languages at a time, or just one?

3. Have you checked all your icons in your system tray? There might be one for that utility?

4. Have you tried to click, or right click on the little pop-up window to see, if that opens an options page, or the utiltiy?

It sounds to me as if you have a software called wordpoint installed. See, if you can find that in your Add/Remove programs.

Yes, I believe it should be some online translation program that is running on your computer. Try Add/ Remove Program.
If it still cannot work, try reformating the computer.
Else you can just live with the translation effect. Anyway the normal computer functions are not affected.

It could be a translation program running in the back group that you have pickup somewhere, go in to control panel and add and remove programs and see if there is anything in there that would explain it

I didn't read any further than "10 points to the first person" before I reported you for gaming for points. Read the guidelines before you use the site, genius.

Edit: I didn't read your entire question because the very first part is a violation. I didn't need to read any further to report you. To its meeeeeee, gaming for points means you promise 10 points to the best answerer. Don't insult me if you don't know what you're talking about.

the most likely problem i could think of is a virus infecting your computer, try running a complete system virus scan... if that doesn't work try the system tools for error checking
