Its not just an American thing. I live in Australia thank you very much & we use it always. I use it for little laughs if it ain't that funny, HOWEVER if it's really funny I use LMAO-laugh my **** (bottom) off

Sometimes I actually laugh out loud..other times I'm just letting them know what they were chatting about was funny.

When I write lol, I don't actually laugh out loud, but I write it when I find something funny. Who would understand LQ (laughing quietly) anyway? :)

I do. I love to laugh. I really do, sometimes it's funny becuz I'll just start laughing and my co-workers think i'm crazy.
