I don't know of anything that the military doesn't cover health wise. Everything I've ever had done, from having babies to a number of surgeries, the military has paid for. And if the Military Hospital doesn't have the facilities to take care of whatever problem you have, they will either send you to another military hospital or a civilian hospital that can accommodate your needs.
I've known people that have had cancer, premature babies that needed extended care in ICU at civilian hospitals, eye surgery....ETC...And it's always been covered. They prefer for us to go to a military facility, but in many cases it's not possible, so they send us elsewhere.
I think the military deserves a lot more pay for their risky jobs, but I have to say that medical wise, we don't have to pay out what civilians do.
When I was pregnant with my last child, I was so ill. In the last four months of my pregnancy, I was in the hospital at least every other week for two to three days for dehydration. I couldn't keep food or water down. When I was six months pregnant, they rushed me in for emergency surgery to remove my appendix, and when I finally had my baby, she was born by c-section and had a few problems of her own. For all of that, it didn't cost us a dime. Had my husband not been military and we were at a civilian hospital, it would have cost us thousands and thousands of dollars.

Good question! You have to check carefully with any facility you are going to (unless it is a military facility). Military medical insurance apparently isn't what it used to be and many soldiers (my sons included) and their families are finding out that their insurance doesn't cover diddly.
