Quite possibly true. Religious people are often temperate in their habits, less likely to do things like excessive drinking and smoking that contribute to poor health. One of the predictors of good health and long life is relationships. People who attend church or other religious institution have a support network, meaningful activities, friends, potluck suppers etc. that keep them from becoming isolated. Isolation is a killer. A famous doctor was once asked what is the best thing you can do if you suddenly learn that you have cancer. He said, "Belong to a church for the past 25 years."

Right up there with women live longer than men.

If I'm not smoking like a chimney, drinking like a fish, and screwing with everything that smiles and wears a skirt, or not for that matter, then what am I going to die from? Boredom? Its a numbers thing and the numbers show that the "religious people" in the comparison study did fewer self-destructive behaviors, and therefore tended to live longer. Read the article again when you are sober, it will make more sense then.

What I have to wonder is if this study actually looked at REALITY or just the average life spans of those who are "religious" as opposed to those who are not...

or did they do the study properly, and compare "religious" people to those who live similar lifestyles without religion?

I'm certain that an atheist who doesn't smoke, drink, use drugs or practice a promiscuous lifestyle will live just as long as somebody who abstains from those things because of god.

If the "scientific" study has a "theory" and then looks for facts to back the theory, then it isn't scientific. Real science looks at all the facts available and then forms a theory.

Religion bears no measurable results in human lifespan,

For example Christian Scientists tend to actually have a significantly shorter lifespan, as without believing in medical science tend to die off younger from a flu virus, or pneumonia.

On the other hand Atheists not believing in life after death tend to hold on just a little longer as they believe that once their life is over.... it's all over and so they tend to be more inclined to go for the risky new advances in medicine.

Don't religious people live forever? It may not be of this world but they never die. They will exist in either heaven or hell but the still see themselves as existing. Not sure about what other religions believe in but I bet they follow the same code. You may believe in reincarnation. That's a form of living forever. I know I live forever. I have children therefore I will live forever because my DNA footprint resides within them (this is assuming the world doesn't blow up or something like that)

Living if defined as a state with mental health as respectable to fellow humans is observed as a much longer living among the religious persons

those would sound good to three before each little thing look, yet following them feels like it may deliver about harass- the position would we be if no individual dreamed higher than purely residing, or if all of us sought revenge as a replace making an allowance for perfect courses of justice, or not in any respect concept about how our movements might want to damage others. go searching, and seek for the reality, there are extra efficient concepts to stay by

religion gives people hope i suppose. it's all about positive mental attitude. if you look at the bright side to life you won't get that stress induced cancer, high blood pressure or sleepless nights. also, due to the practice of monogamy in a few of them, std's get cut down too.
i'm not sure if the statement is accurate though, plenty of atheists i know are quite chilled out about the whole life thing too.

hi lol
excluding my experience about myself and my cultism..
see this explanation plz
they(religious people) have some character:
1_less making love
2_pure sex life
3_less food
4_much clean of all dirties
5_positive patience
6_clear panoramic vision to life(before,present,after)
7_optimistic sight to everything
8_less load of envy,fear,hate...bad sick feelings
9_less worry about dat-food,age-length,destiny...
these things acts on our bodies,hormons,metabolism,angry..

and affect our organs(tests, pancreas, liver, lungs, heart, brain, all other glands and their secretion...

All of this acts(+/-) with body systems, and the way they accept or defence diseases
and so many things which I can't mention here ,sometimes can't even understand or believe or accept

how do I forgive a f***ing person that did bad to me w/o any reason?
how do I give all of my food to a poorman or an orphan..?
I know that is the rigth ,but how can I do that while I am hungry and feel that I deserve so many good things in this life !!

but when I ruminate (for the known religions to me ) I find it is the best way to treat with this life good for them..
hope to approach this level of highness

May be true. But classic rock n' rollers live far longer and look better today, too. Tear a page from their book and see for yourself.
