Remember Francis of Assissi gave all his money away to the poor before he took up a religious life. I would suggest getting medical skills, start by helping the disadvantage in your own town, the down and outs, the people sleeping on the streets. If you feel this is a real calling then apply to work in a mission hospital say in Calcutta or help Aids victims in South Africa through a registered charity. Once there your good actions will do more to make people follow your example than any words you may say.

Until you feel you have the answers from God, go on to college and be patient while God leads you. Even as a missionary you will need some college education as well as theological education. Get with a great church that upholds missionaries, work in the church and make your desire known to them, get some more education in the Bible so you are able to teach well, and God will lead you from there. You don't need money to be a missionary, you need God--he'll provide all you need--but saving some money of your own to have on hand is a great idea. Not all missionaries will have to pay their own ways, for if you go with groups that are from churches, your needs are nearly 98% met for you. If you decide to live in a place, you will need skills to get work and make money, so educate yourself on the places you desire to help the most and see what you may need to study, especially the culture itself. Education is #1, no matter what your desires are, so start there and let God take you to the path. {No, you will not do "more good" if you are a nurse or a doctor, but taking some courses in medicine would be helpful, it's not mandatory.}

ok, you have to determine how you will best be able to help people.
first off, i will say that there is no shortage of uneducated people in underdeveloped countries. that's part of the problem. as an unskilled laborer you can only do so much.
on the other hand, if you go to college first, you will learn skills that will be able to better help the people you want to help.
underdeveloped countries have a HUGE shortage of doctors and nurses for example. you would be able to do a lot more good as one of those. of course, you don't have to live a secular life to be a doctor, you can be a missionary doctor, they need those too. especially at a mission, where there's lots of poor people who need medical help, and even more so in war torn countries.
so my advice is, learn something that you are good at that would help your mission more than to just be a body there. learn a skill that will make you a true asset to the mission, and allow you to really make a difference.

Go out on deputation....talk to your Pastor.....ask well-to-do church folks to help you....get a better paying job....don't waste your money on the ice cream truck....you had better make sure it's God's will first. Don't base your christian services by a late great anyone. Base it on God's will for your life. You wanna be a missionary? It doesn't take money to go soul-winning. Get a King James Bible in your hand and have at it brother.

Remember, Jesus sent out his disciples as lambs into the world. They had only the clothes on their back and no money. Have faith. You are young. If you want to follow Christ and do legitimate christian work-then go. Peace be with you.

Go to college, keep working and save up so that you won't have to beg for money when you are ready to go on a mission. If you choose a good christian college they will have mission trips that you can go on. You will need to have your own money to pay for transportation and such. Just abecause you want to be a mission, don't expect others to support you.

It makes more sense to specialize in a field that is needed in missionary work like teaching or nursing, or ecology and biology. That way, you might actually get paid to go, instead of having to find your own way somewhere.

Try a group called, "The Navigators." They are a group on college campuses, but I know they support missionaries as well.

You can do both. Go to college in Europe and get a church to put you in contact with missionairies in the area. Get your pastor to help you locate a college.
