I don't know myself but I remember a woman on the news when my kids were younger. Her son had leukaemia & she said it was because she lived near pylons. She did some research of her own and discovered a link with pylons & leukemia. I lived right near some pylons myself & wasn't taking any chances. I moved well away from them.

There's no solid proof that they cause health problems otherwise the pylons would have been pulled down and the National Grid system would have been buried underground by now regardless of the cost.
Statistically, however, higher than average cases of Leukaemia have been reported on younger people living in a close proximity to a overhead power line. I'm not sure if these statistics are nationwide or in a particular region which could mean another cause.

At the moment high tension power lines are classed as "possibly cancer causing". There is limited evidence but links have been found in households with increased levels of low frequency electromagnetic radiation (EMR).
Another study found that children who lived within 200 metres of high voltage powerlines at birth had an increased risk of leukaemia than those living greater than 600 metres away. The authors of the study said that it was not conclusive if the clusters were caused by EMR or another common factor.

Southern California Edison, an electric company, prints and distributes in there billing statements on occasion a pamphlet entitled EMF. In there they do say you can ask for more info and when I did, the studies they sited did show a link to childhood leukemia, adult brain cancers, Lou Gehrig's disease and mis-carriage.
Do your best to stay away or adding health magnets will help counter act the effects.

I have heard that there is a higher risk of leukaemia......I used to live near them but eventually the Council pulled them down and put the cables underground.

Possibly increased risk of leukaemia. Obviously the electricity companies deny this, But it's not a risk that I would take.
