It's good that you want to learn German so bad. I'm glad you want to learn a foreign language and like they always say, "It's never too late to learn a foreign language!".

I find that if you have a little determination, discipline, and enthusiasm you will find learning German very fun. English speakers have major advantages over other people who are trying to learn German mainly for the fact that there are literally thousands of words that sound or spell or look like their English counterparts. Heck, I have at least a 75% of getting a German word translation right by adding some modifications to make it "look" and "sound" German!

Viel Gluck! (sorry about the spelling. There's supposed to be an umlaut over the 'u' and I don't know how to type it out :(

Oh btw, check out 'The Everything Learning German' by Edward Swick. I'm using it right now and I can't believe how much I'm learning all by myself.

Hello,

This is great, that you would like to learn German. Here are a few good books to help you out.

Teach yourself German
Colloquial German
Hugo German
Berlitz German
Lonely planet German

Pimsleur recorded books and also rosetta stone are some of the best in today's market. Pimsleur recorded books are like recorded conversations which you can play on your cd player or your mp3 player.

Here are some few websites that i have come up with...

http://german.about.com
http://www.webgerman.com
http://www.germanfortravellers.com/learn/index2.html
http://www.uncg.edu/~lixlpurc/publications/NetzUeb.html
http://www.deutsch-lernen.com/
http://www.travlang.com/languages/german/ihgg/
http://www.learnplus.com/courses/german/german1/german1.html

Hope they helped you, and also remember to check with your local library before buying the books because they can be expensive.

Hallo, I've lived here for two years, it's a very hard language to pick up. But it's possible. Just take some classes! Tschüs (said like chuce means bye) :)

They should teach classes on it at a community college near you. Or even in your high school. There are also those 'German for Dummies' books and audio tapes at bookstores and libraries.

I ordered CD's and books. This is a very difficult language to learn, by the way. They have 16 ways to say the word "the" and it is very formal and proper. But it is a wonderful language and the culture is fantastic! Work hard and you will be fine!
