50 USD should give me a half decent hotel in Chiang Mai I would say. Who has some tips on which one to book for this budget (50USD per day)?

There are a truck load of hotels in Chaing Mai. You shouldn't pay more than $20US. Try to stay close to the centre, where the wall and moat are. There are markets and Bars along the wall.

Dont forget to head up to Pai for a few days too, very relaxing and awesome scenery. Hire a motorbike if you want. Get at least a 600cc though. There are some brilliant stretches of road. Its one of the 10 best motorbike rides in the world.

Also, there are some really really big caves to the north of Pai as well. And the long neck Karan tribe, you know the ones with all the gold necklaces and really long necks.

These hotels are between the Wall and Chiangmai Zoo:
- Lotus Hotel Pang Suan Kaew (http://www.lotuspskhotel.com)
- Chiang Mai Orchid Hotel (http://www.chiangmaiorchid.com)
You can find lots of hotels along Tapae Road or Ping River but I don't go to that area often. Anyway, don't forget to go to the walking street on Sunday nights.

Well. Nothing easier than that. Go to any online booking website and they will have normally a function to narrow down your search by price:
So, for example go to www.hotels.com or www.excelloz.com or any other online booking website and click on the desired location and the desired price range and you will be shown all the hotels available and suitable for your budget.

Go to www.asiarooms.com and find your rate and location. there are plenty on that price you are willing to foot. Even right down in the city centre.
