I got a bargain on nightstands, chest and mirror and I have a queen headboard already. It is brassy bronze and appears to have a lacquer finish. I want to pain it a cream color to match my good find...can this be done? Thanks Miriam

Yes, but you have to sand the surface first so that the paint will stick to it. You can also use a chemical to take the finish off, but you have to use something so that the paint won't just peel off.

sure can Miriam.
You will need to put an oil based undercoat over the lacquer to make the new paint stick and after the undercoat you can put a nice gloss enamel as a top coat.

The easiest way would be to strip the laquer finish off first. then prime and paint with a metal paint.

Try it on a corner of the bed somewhere and see what happens. You could ask somewhere where they sell paint.
