Is it something serious to worry about.

I've had an abnormal pap smear. Then I had to go through a colposcopy (i'm not sure if I spelled that right) but anyways, it was confirmed that I got HPV, of course I was very concerned and was sad about it for a while. Especially, since HPV is known to be a cause for genital warts. But not all HPV causes warts, but the scary thing is that if it doesn't cause warts, then it might be a strain that causes cervical cancer. I don't mean to scare you because I've known few that have had abnormal paps and came out fine (so they tell me) but just take care of yourself and follow your gynocologists advice. If you need additional support I actually found some online HPV support groups that really helped me through. You'll find out in the end as I have, it's not as devastating as you think. Good Luck.

Sometimes. The abnormal tests I've had were because of HPV or human paploma virus...a very common STD that causes genital warts (although I never had any).
