It depends a lot of people think that churchs make more money than they really do. But there are some churchs that make a whole lot of money. The thing is that would be a violation of the 1st ammendment. I think that the only time the government has the right to tax a church is when it begins to push other agendas especially a political one because at that point it has violated the separation of church and state and so no longer has that protection.

When the chruch is generating more income, the government can charge tax. There's nothing wrong in it. Now a days church gets more income than a commercial establishment or an individual. With due respect to the church authorities for their charities and good work, they can afford to pay tax which utlimately would be someone's bread thru the government.

any religious organization that behaves like a multi-million dollar business should be taxed accordingly.

If a minister can afford airplanes, luxury cars, and expensive clothing, then he is not following the words of Christ and should be taxed just like the rest of us.

Religion is BIG business in this country.

Most ministers don't live that lifestyle. Most churches should remain tax free. The ones abusing their followers and the word of christ by becoming rich from it are evil and should be taxed no different than Donald Trump and Bill Gates.

If you wanna mix church and state, fine. But if you want to kick God out of public places then government has no right to be in the church. I'd love to see Christianity rule this land, but until that happens, you can't do that

and I agree with the second answer:)

They have hid behind a wall of exemption for far to long. Religion is a big money maker and they should be taxed the same as any other business. They are rich and call themselves poor and in need.

If things where truly fair, then the non profit status would be revoked for all religions.

Yes. If the Catholic Church wants to convince church-goers how they should feel about illegal immigration then I think the Catholic Church should lose its Federal Aid and tax exemption.

you normally do not tax non-profit organizations, but some churches increasingly look like they are being run for profit. Maybe we should can tax whatever salaries and benefits the church provides to it's clergy.

YES they jolly well should!

The coffers of the church could do with a good audit, followed by a good taxing!

A most excellent suggestion

I think so. Why should Americans pay the churches' fair share of property taxes, etc?

YES, and not only churches, but all the other land owned by the church.
