I am not Catholic. I am a born again Christian who does not agree with Catholic doctrine and practices like their devotion to Mary through prayer. However, I find that picture very offensive.
God selected Mary to be the vessel to bring the Son of God into the world because she was a virtuous Jew who was engaged to a man named Joseph who was a descended of the tribe of Judah.
Salvation is of the Jews. The Messiah, the Savior of the world, Jesus Christ was to come through the tribe of Judah.
These people are mocking her sexual purity by making her look like a licentious person.
May God forgive them and find a way to save their souls before it is to late.

im catholic, and by catholic, i mean a normal catholic, not the kind that gets pissed off to the extreme when things like this happends. and also im not the kind of idiot catholic that get stressed out when 'the da vinci code' came out
its a ******* painting, it doesnt change anything you believe in, why the hell should you care. is this really going to ruin your life? or is this all your life is about, getting pissed off if someone makes an offense or rude comment about your religion
grow up and relize there is more to life than getting upset over pointless things like these. i mean for god sake, what difference is this painting going to make in the world!?!? do you think this will change anything?? NO!!! it makes no difference is someone painted mary wearing a bikini. if someone painted a picture of jesus having gay sex and killing kittens and hung it in an art display and i was offended by it, you know what i would do? NOT GO TO THE F'ING ART DISPLAY AND GET ON WITH THE REST OF MY LIFE

I am Catholic. I find this not neccesarily offensive, but done in poor taste. I don't think the artist meant to offend anyone's beliefs. Do I think it should be done? No. But it has, and I really believe there are bigger insults to Catholicism then this. Say the death penalty, war, etc. Do you know what I am really offended by? The poster who said the artist was a female and "probably from Mexico (what do you expect)." I am a Catholic Mexican woman. Get over your ethnocentric self.

I'm not catholic, so wouldn't know. It probably is. However, the artist painted a picture she wanted to portray. There is certainly nothing evil in the picture. The people who don't like it don't have to look at it. The artist has a right to free speech. She has a right to paint a picture of anything she wants.
I don't see what the big deal is.

I think it shows a blatant disrespect for the Virgin Mary.Nevermind if you are Catholic or not.
What next?Jesus in a thong?
How about a mohawk?
Where do we draw the line? And who does she think she is?
Do this to any other religious symbol and she would start a riot.
Has she targeted any Muslim or Buddhist symbols?
Why not wearing a toga? It's disrespect period. Not art.

Hmm...what's the problem here? We came into this world naked! lol Besides, it's only a bikini. Sheesh...you people...you see worse things than that at a beach or at the mall!!! Easy solution: don't like it? DON'T LOOK! *shakes head* next they're going to try to put clothes on the "David" statue!

I can see why it would offend Catholics...
However, is it really about religion or art? If it's solely an artistic point of view and not meant to offend one faith or another, then why get upset?

Extremely offensive. I believe it is offensive to all Christians and to Christ Himself. I wouldn't want to be the one responsible for degrading Christs mother. May God have mercy on the person responsible for this blasphemous creation and bring them to repentance and understanding.
