Tell him. Never let anything go unsaid. No matter what the consequences you will always regret what you did not do more than what you do. Friendship entails open honesty, surely. Always remember nothing is a mistake, if you can live with the consequences. That is more a matter of acceptance, than life running to a script. It's all an adventure - unpredictable.

Just tell him, but be ready. Try bringing it up somehow, or easing into the conversation slowly. Be warned, though, because I told my best friend that I loved him, and oh did it end badly. I guess it didn't help that he had a girlfriend who it always seemed like he'd break it off with, and he was pretty strongly hinting he did like me. Oh well, I was a lot younger and a lot more foolish.
Anyway, ranting aside, if you think he likes you, and if you trust him, he should be nice about it whether he does or doesn't reciprocate.

Always be honest. If he's the friend you explained above... then you shouldn't have anything to be afraid of. Obviously you two are close, you have some evidence that he could feel the same way... SO GO FOR IT.

some times great friends make the best relationships. in fact most of the time. try it out and if it feels weird you can always break up. if you didn't complicate it with sex you should be able to go back to the way you were.

Tell him you like him. Its better to tell him truthfully how you feel than to look back on this a couple years later and wonder "What if...?"

I say : tell him how you feel. Your relationship might be better for it. IF you keep it bottled up, it might give you problems in the long run.

if his answer was yes, and your is too... your question is moot... you have to tell them... in this life we are given the chance to love someone completely rarely, jump in... love him... and let him love you back.... you need not have sex with him immediately, but definately, tell him you are interested.... but don't reveal too much.... keep him guessing....
