I think we are perceived as bad people because sweeping generalizations are made, unfavorable stereotypes exist, and quite frankly because so many of us have wasted so much time being so Heavenly-minded that we are no earthly good.
If we would stay focussed on living what we believe, instead of just broadcasting what we believe other people could see God's hand upon our lives. Bible-thumping and righteous indignation don't prove anything.
We can't persuade others to follow our beliefs by not living according to our beliefs.
Great question.

It is a pretty basic answer...they are afraid!! Christianity does not fit their life style! When some one feels guilty they typically will be aggressive/offensive. Its very easy to sit back and ignore the truth regarding God. The first steps toward becoming a Christian is eliminating negative behaviors (Excessive drinking, pornography, lust etc...) which is difficult, in the beginning....then you start to see the big picture and that is Forgiveness and Grace!! The first step is the hardest and usually the most unlikely. But once you let down your defense's and aggressiveness and look for the truth it becomes very clear that the step taken and the "sacrifices" that are made are not really difficult and/or "sacrifices" at all. I have recently asked the tough questions regarding Christianity, Evolution/Creation etc... and it points back to one thing "In the beginning God created" ....EVERYTHING....even the non-believers. If everyone believed there would not be "Faith".

You got it the wrong way, buddy. They're not perceived as bad people. The people who question some very questionable and unproven contraptions such as religion are the ones who are told "Wait for Judgment Day" and "I hope you like hell." Then the unblinded questioners reply to the barrage of hell-bound omens with a simple "Shut up, you fundamental nutcase" and then we're perceived as the trying to crack down on religion. It's kind of funny...in a very unfunny way.

I don't perceive believers in God as 'bad people.' I think sometimes they can be seen as people who hide behind ancient doctrines to justify outdated views. Sometimes they can be seen as inflexible and hypocritical. I for one really respect people who truly believe. Take my aunt, a very strong Roman Catholic, yet she is the least judgmental person I know - she has a lovely warm, giving and generous nature. She has made her religion personal and does not feel the need to evangelize or hide behind doctrines to validate her beliefs.

They're not. It's just that some people are worse than others and all Christians are given a bad name because of a few radical, outspoken people. Plus, a lot of Christians often think they are innocently "witnessing" to people when they are actually terrorizing a person and making that person feel extremely uncomfortable.
Religion is a very sensitive, personal thing that people should keep to themselves.

It stems from the very early seventies when the Jewish left supported agitators like Abbie Hoffman. Their goal was to "take the moral high ground" from the right. Now, the left's idea of the moral high ground is Christian bashing and deifying an adulterous President while vilifying an upright one.
It would be sad if they weren't so damn juvenile and annoying.

There are a lot of bad people who go around hollering stupid things, and advertising their faith and talking about God. They give the whole group of believers a bad name.
And then there are people who think incorrect things about those who have different beliefs, and their incorrect opinions get mixed in with the bad people going around giving believers a bad name... and it just doesn't go much farther downhill than that.

For the same reason feminists hate men. Because some have been bad examples. And also ignorance to what a persons belief structure actually is.

Whoever judges someone like that is a bad person. I don't believe in any higher being, but I don't go around thinking ppl who do are bad. Whoever does needs to grow up and learn that everyone's entitled to their opinion.

Are you nuts?
They're not perceived as bad people ... just delusional. And a few are "perceived" as fundamentalists cause they're just a little too outspoken and kooky.
