Man, it takes a lot of patience and willpower. I just wanted to be around to watch my daughter grow up. That was my motivation. Hang in there!

quit about 5 years ago. cold turkey is the only way to go. In 10 days, you will be fine. Mind you, those 10 days will be HELL.
After 10 days you will be free of the poison, but you still may need to break the habit. Carry Lots of healthy snacks all the time, so you dont start eating junk food. Start exercising regularly to stay busy. By far the hardest might be to avoid smoking if you are having a drink of alcohol.
Dont Do it!!!!! Dont take that one puff.
Once you do, you will be hooked again. You will find that you dont NEED that puff after 10 days. Thats when willpower helps.
There is no such thing as willpower in the first 10 days. That is pure physical agony that you just have to overcome. Your Body NEEDS the drug. You are going through withdrawal. Fight it with all of your being!!!! You will be fine. You CAN do this.
Good luck.

It takes practice. I have attempted so many times to quit, and sometimes I would think what's the point..I'm just going to start up again. But don't think that way. It took time to get into the habit of smoking..it's going to take time to quit. But I just kept trying to quit. And if you failed, then start all over and try again. The more I did this, I slowly would feel guilty when I did smoke but at least it was slowly entering my mind to not smoke. Then, what really helped was changing my routine. Get rid of those triggers. I used want to smoke on my breaks at work, or when I had coffee etc. Recognize your routines and when you smoke. Changing my routine really helped me. But I think my key word was to keep telling myself to practice quitting. Cuz when I tried to go cold turkey, I only felt like a failure when I wasnt able quit right away.

I quit several times even one time for 4 yrs and started back and finally on Aug 21st 1996 I quit for good. I done it cold turkey after asking a sincere prayer to God to take the desire away to smoke. I have never even been tempted to smoke since. It is a tough addiction and there are things on the market that may help you. Good luck!

1. Be scared (my dad died of smoking related cancer)
2. Be scared (Had to stop, did not want to be a weakling and fail in
front of friends.)
3. Don't advertise and feel free to borrow from friends when in
need. Flush or donate your tobacco, make sure the house is
clean.
4. Was lucky quit cold turkey, and am still non smoking.

I did it because I got pregnant and couldn't stand the smell, I wanted to throw up. Thank God. I recommend using nicotine patches, or smoke away. Also, get something to munch on that won't make you gain a million pounds. Maybe sunflower seeds. It will take care of the oral fixation. Pray for help from above for sure. Good Luck

I just quit smoking. I've been smoke free for 32 days and on the patch... it helps with the cravings. Also, so I wouldn't gain weight I've been eating tons of lollipops and ice pops...which also helps with that oral fixation

Many have. It's different from person to person and depends on will power. The strong have quit cold turkey (I know one personally). But others can use gum, patches...just make sure you wean OFF of them too. Cuz they still contain nicotene.

Yes, I saw my Grandpa die in front of me because of it, no one knew he had cancer of his lung, went to his brain, I took him to the ER, for some symptoms, An it was all down hill after that, he didn't want to die, he died in about a month or less, he yelled out my name when i wasn't there, he was around late 50's. I couldn't stop right then, I smoked more, But about a month later I did it gradually, puff on 1, put it out, light it up every hr. @ 1st, then 2, get the pic. ? when it came down to 1 cig. a day for me, hitting it & making it last. It was bedtime, & i decided I can't keep puffing on 1 cig. a day, all it did was make me want more, Soooo. that was it, I knew myself, if i hit it the next day, ill want it, So after gradually getting down to 1. that was it. IT WAS Hard, Yes, every day got easier, month, year, then I forgot about it, I forgot I smoked, Praise God ! so far, I'm smoke free for 17 years, my grandpa that lived with me & I was close to had to die for me to Quit smoking, & my mom getting Emphesma also, @ that time, She quit 1st, I did 2 wks. after her, as we watched Grandpa Joe Suffer. God Bless Him & keep him safe in Heaven with my brother Eric who committed suicide before Joe died.. Ill pray for you You do the same, but you have to ask in Jesus name.
