this depends on which obstacle course. In Army Basic Combat Training, there are several: fire and maneuver, bayonette, night fire, and then there is your old-fashined standard obstacle course, which is called the confidence course. This is pretty similar to the course shown in the movie "Full Metal Jacket". If you are in good physical shape, it's no problem. It truly is a matter of confidence, as it will challenge your fear of heghts and you must depend on your platoon-mates on several obstacles. Just believe in yourself and you'll pass with flying colors. Hooah!

Obstacle course in any military training is quite difficult if you are not physically and mentally ready to undergo with it. That's why, before the obstacle course, the DI (Drill Instructor) is doing the best he can to ensure that candidates (trainees) will be ready for the course (ie. stamina and can cope up with stress, associated with training, including discipline). Most military training, the obstacle course normally done in mid or later part of the training period.
And when they're ready, it's easy. Go with it, and don't ring the bell.

Not hard the first time, if that is all you do. If you just finish a distance run and have to do it, it can be a little challenging. If you have to do it three times in a row, it can be challenging. Mind over matter. Just accomplish the mission. No pain No gain....
