I happen to have a large dvd collection at home and my two friends (who are married to each other) noticed and so we watched a film in my home, then they borrowed a dvd to watch at their own home. The next day they came over to 'say hi' and returned it and borrowed another, then left. Is this okay? Feels a bit odd. When is it too many?

Good answers. The funny part is they were the ones who made the 'Blockbuster' reference. Other details, they just came by for 15-20 minutes, not to actually hang out...nor did they invite me to watch it. The collection largely belongs to my father as I only own 20 to his 500.

if it feels odd then put a stop to it, you're not a rental place. what do they offer you in return? i let my friends borrow things from me when they need them because they're my friends and i care about them, but they never make a habit of it

Lol, my mom is in the same situation. She has roughly 200-250 (not joking) and the family always comes over to borrow movies. I admit I am also guilty. She doesn't mind as long as she gets them back, eventually, and it's family. For friends however, seems a little intrusive and abusive in a way. If you're comfortable enough around each other for joking, next time they want to borrow another, just say in a joking manner "Hey, what are we, Blockbuster? Hahaha!" Maybe they'll get the hint without losing a friend, and maybe they'll feel a little embarrassed about it.

Good luck!

They are bringing them back...and I assume you would not be using them in the short time they have it, right? What is wrong with sharing? Should you both have a huge collection?

Now...it is unfair that they borrow and don't have payback. So, if they have something that you would like, you should feel free to ask. ex: hey, my lawnmower is broke, can I borrow yours? If they don't mind sharing both ways, open up your collection for them! If they do mind, shut down your Blockbuster store.

i think its fine as long as it doesnt continue more than a few times a month....the dvds you own are special to you, but after the first few viewings, they're basically just taking up shelf space. Sharing is a good thing, and sharing good movies is even better.

If you're friends dont act responsibly (dont return your DVDs, damage them), thats the point where you stop. They would be understanding of your situation then.

When a friend comes over for a social visit (hang out) and always leaves with one of your DVDs, there is no problem as long as it is returned promptly and you are not inconvenienced.

As soon as you feel they only come by to exchange movies, you should stop handing them out. It may cost you your friends sooner but this will happen later anyway when you get fed up with their taking advantage of you.

Yep it sounds like your friends are using you, If you feel uncomfortable about them borrowing your dvd dont hesitate and talk to them about it. Or you can always say that every friday night or so is dvd night at your place. In that way you don't have to hurt their feelings... There are many solutions you can work with.

I myself own over 200 DVDs and have people borrowing them constantly! I have lost a few over time and have recently decided that my DVDs that I paid for with my own money stays here in my home. my room mates call me blockbuster and borrow them...but I don't expect them to stay and visit with me...actually...I more so avoid them! =) but my movies stay in my home still...just in their room! Maybe make a joke about it to them..."Gee thanks for stopping by to visit blockbuster! come again!" or "thanks for visiting my collection" Maybe they'll get the point! My friends didn't and I just had to tell them NO MORE! They're still my friends! But if they want that movie...GO BUY IT! Sounds mean...but I don't like people taking advantage of me! Maybe you need to just tell them!!!!

I wouldn't worry about it - my partner and I have a large DVD collection and at any day of the week one of them is being borrowed and enjoyed by one of our mates........they all find their way home.

If you don't mind, then why not? But if it bothers you then politely explain your reasoning to them. If it gets excessive though i would feel like they're taking advantage. Try and wait and see if they keep borrowing more.
