This just completely baffles me, and it goes for Christians, Muslims, atheists, Jews, and any other religons: Why can't people just accept that others have different beliefs?? I am Christian and I accept that others have different beliefs, and I don't preach to them and tell them they have to believe in my God. I just can't get through my head why anyone would want to bash what someone else believes in. It seems to me, although it's very likely that I'm wrong, that it is Christians and atheists who do this the most. Christians would probably be #1, in fact, which is very ironic to me, considering God preached tolerance. (And I don't believe that "telling the truth" is an excuse. It's the truth to some people, but not to others. It's just plain rude.)
I doubt anyone can satisfactorily answer this, unless they are a person who has bashed someone else in the past. I'm just kind of frustrated right now and feel the need to say something. Sorry this is so long.

Toddo from Mempho is right, it was stupid of me to say that about people being able to satisfactorily answer this. Many people so far who don't bash others have said things I believe are correct.
Oh, and ES - I'M ALREADY CHRISTIAN. You do not have to preach to me!!!!

Where do you get that God preached tolerance? "I come to you not to bring peace, but the sword?" How is that tolerant?
What the Jesus of the Bible preached is that his followers are to go forth and make disciples. I would assume that all major belief systems would have similiar mandates.
It's also a nice little box you've made, where you've automatically put anyone who can "satisfactorily" answer your question into a group who have bashed others, meaning even if someone can give a good reply, they are not worth listening to, anyway.
How intolerant of you.

I really think we need more people like you in this world.
The number one reason why people bash others' believes is because of person reasons (there are too many to list but at the end, you will find it's always personal).
Now asking question is a different thing like for example if you heard something about Bible or Torah or Quran or any other religious scripture that you do not understand or you think is a nonsense, sure ask but by bashing someone's faith brings nothing but more hate between each other.

I have been on the receiving end of bashing when it comes to my religion and I am a Christian. I believe that God will reveal to people what is the truth if they ask him to. So, when I find myself in a discussion with someone whose belief is different than mine and it begins to become a stressful debate. I back out and state that we can agree to disagree. God calls us to live peaceably with all men. Some people don't see that. I never read where Jesus forced himself on anyone. He gave us free will and in the end we will all answer for the choice we made.

I agree and I guess it's because they don't understand others religions and for some.........at least some of the bible thumping christians I know....that they feel they are telling you the "truth" and saving you from hell. I had to cut a friendship short as the other person kept telling me that I was going to go to hell because I didnt share his beliefs. (Im pagan and believe in both male and female dieties)...He kept telling me I was wrong and that I would learn the truth someday. I told him that his truth wasnt my truth. I respected his beliefs and as a friend I expected him to respect my beliefs. I find it interesting as to why some people will get almost violent and so intense about "saving" others from going to hell. I personally dont believe in hell! So no matter what .......I know Im not giong there. I believe that when you die you experience what it is you expect to experience! If its god and the devil fighting over your soul........or a garden of paradise or hellish existance. I find it interesting that others think they can TELL others what to do so that they will be in Gods favor. NO ONE CAN REALLY SPEAK FOR THE DIVINE! So I choose to believe in the same way as the buddist saying........religion is like a wheel........all spokes lead to the center. Each person has the right to follow their own paths! Namaste!

I think that people do it because have not reached a point of security and maturity within their own religion/belief system. Because they do not have that, they try to build it by destroying others. We would really be a better world if we could accept the fact that people can have diffrent thoughts, and then see past that, and like them anyway. Regardless of the differences of: culture, language, religion (or lack thereof), and skin tone, we are all really just the same.

I used to be intolerate of other religions, that is, prior to obtaining a college education. A gradual change happened to me over the years due to classes like World Religions, World Art, Sociology and World Literature. Now, I am more open in my views, only because I see that others have beautiful things to offer as well. Intolerance, I believe, comes from being uneducated about the ways of others.

ur cool, I like you. I've been saying this in many of my posts on here but no one listens.
Of course everyone thinks they're right, I mean I think I'm right too and I'm sure you do, but some people have forgotten that its a personal choice. They don't understand that another person's religion is none of their business. But oh well, nothing can be done about it because they are to ignorant and closed minded to listen to anyone but themselves.
Again, you're cool. <3 We may not believe in the same thing, but who cares right? Doesn't change anything now does it?

I am virtually atheistic myself and I do compliment you on this. I have long held the same view, much to the disproof of my devoutly Christian grandmother. The only explanation I can give is that people don't want to be wrong in this. It is a big deal for them to be correct. If they choose wrong, they risk a firey Hell in the afterlife. Bashing other faiths helps assure them that they are right in the path that they chose.

Religions, cults, sects, and non-believers cannot compromise with each others therefore if they did God would have ended this along time ago. Christians will be persecuted for righteousness sake. Christians must defend their faith so that others may see the truth of God's existence and his words. Atheist must convert others to their way of living like the bible predicts because Satan is running out of time. Christians must evangelize and share the good news of Jesus Christ for this is commanded. For example: Jesus went to the sinners house and ate with them but yet bringing them to salvation. Jesus didn't tolerate sinners and their sins.
