Hello,
Most South American countries speak Spanish excluding Brazil, where the speak Portuguese. The Portuguese they speak varies in Pronunciation in compariosn to the Standard Portuguese spoken in Portugual and also in Africa.

i guess Brazil was colonized by Portugal so they speak Portuguese. The rest of South America is spanish. Very few speak english in South America that is why in the beauty pageants latina beauties have interpreters.
