I think my car's factory (stock) speakers blew out -- they now only work at lower volume levels, but for limited periods of time. I have speakers from my previous car (Polk EX602a 6 1/2 inch), which I want to install in my current car. But I don't want the same thing to happen to these speakers. The stereo is a Sony EXR-400 cassette am/fm receiver/tuner. I don't know how to tell if they'll be compatible.

I'm looking into possibly getting a Kenwood KC-335 cassette am/fm receiver/tuner.

Check out the power rating. Your receiver or Head Units (HU) always comes in total Max Power output or PMPO. Same with speaker ratings. We normally look at RMS ouput of the amps/receivers but some mfgs prefer bigger numbers with their PMPO. If both HU and Speakers are the same then 80% of the time its ok.

But if your HU is a bit low, stick with Coaxial speakers which requires less power (and give less power) from your HU than component speakers.

PS. Nice car!

if your stereo is a 200 watt 50 watt per channel(speaker), than your speakers should be alteast able to handle 50 watts, if on the other hand you put big speakers ie: 200 watt speakers for a 50 watt channel you wont get a good clean sound. when looking for speakers theres so many factors that can effect the sound quality such as Hrz and ohms and such, but the easiest way is to go into a place that installs radios and ask them to match your stereo with some speakers.

You need to know the rms rating of the speakers and the output of the in-dash unit (cd player). The speakers rating has to be at least able to handle this wattage output or they could blow out.

What kind of car do you have now? If you list the make and model of your car we can tell you what type of speakers you need for your front and rears.
