Can someone please answer these questions for me - because I am really confused...
1.Why is a "traditional wedding held in a church? 2.Why is it considered "respectful" to wear a dress to a wedding/funeral? 3.Where do these things come from? 4. Who declared them as traditional? 5. Why do people think you are insane if you are not within the "norm" of "tradition?"
HELP

Larry.....thanks I will keep it in mind (LOL). Toddo, you must have been there too!
Keep the answers coming.
The real deal is that I attended a wedding this weekend (I wore dress pants and a nice top) I was told that I was being disrespectful (even though the bride and groom said they did not mind) - It just brought up alot of questions!
For those of you that have accussed me of being insane and confused - you really do not have a clue.....

Hm....tempted to do each, but since all are asking the same thing, basically....

We are all lemmings. Anyone who does not conform is automatically seen as being unusual, because conforming would indicate that you are going along with the majority, and non-conformists would naturally comprise a small percentage of people.

Now...whether or not people think you're "insane", I guess all depends on to what length you are willing to take your non-conformity, whether to a simple minority or to a completely individualistic stance.

Basic Group Behavior 101, so I'm assuming these questions are taking a personal slant. So the real issue is, do you delight enough in your non-conformity to not give a rip about what others think? Chances are you do, and this question more than likely reflects an irritation with lack of understanding from others.

But now I'm rambling. Lemmings. Yeah, that's it.

I think fancy added in place of traditional makes it more easily understood but doesn't answer your whole question.I think things only become traditional when the majority of people practice a given thing such as a wedding / funeral etc. in the most popular manner. Where do they come from? Its sort of a monkey see monkey do thing really. I think people see you insane if your not in the norm of tradition merely because you've made a choice of your own instead of following the most common path taken. For instance Putting on your best suit or dress for a wedding or funeral . I don't see why we shouldn't be permitted to wear what is most comfortable without someone considering it an insult and disrespectful. I feel if you can put on and take off respect as you would clothes then there are other more important issues to deal with.

1. It's traditional to have a wedding in a church because you are vowing your love before God. Traditionally, people married in a church because people put their faith into God more so than they do now.
2. It's respectful to wear a dress to a wedding/funeral because it's a special occasion. You don't wear jeans and a T-Shirt to either one of these events.

3. These things come from a long time ago, back in the days of your.

4. I have no clue! Just follow these rules if you dont want to look like a heartless ******

5. I dont think people think it's insane, people just think it's highly RUDE, like all of your questions.

You ARE confused. 'Traditional' refers to time honored events or practices, meaning somewhere, at sometime, someone started doing something that caught on, and others kept up the "tradition". It's not law. And nobody "declares" something to be traditional...it's traditional because it follows a tradition. Since tradition has nothing to do with legality or 'forcing' people to be or do something, you're free to do whatever. And people are not considered insane because they don't follow the crowd.
Your queries appear to be defensive in nature, so it's my guess that you are simply overreacting to something someone said. And, BTW, there is nothing wrong with having "traditions". You can start your own, if you don't like the ones around you. Go for it.

Too many questions too late at night. Tradition comes from what a lot of people done before you. If you don't want to wear a dress, don't. If I learnt anything it's tradition don't mean beep these days. So do what you want. Don't worry what everyone thinks. Just be yourself and you will be happy.

Hello Laura...Hugs....Actually the "traditional" wedding/dress codes as well as what is considered curse words all stem from the Purtian movement , which is well documented in your history books...just look for circa 1600-1700's....

I think someone just sat down one day and said I like this this way and that, that way. Everyone agreed and decided to make it traditional. To me there's no such thing as normal or tradtional. Unique is normal. Traditional...what is that? It's your wedding it's your thing make it your own.

What's all the to do about? Either you're going to wear a dress or not. What? Are you gonna get a spanking if you don't'? Who cares what THEY think?

Or is that the bigger issue here?
We care too much about what THEY have to say!!
