My mom said that she heard that cats will get you back in your sleep if you irritate them too much.
Ex: If you are constantly throwing your cat around playfully or biting his paw or pulling on body parts and just rough-housing him like that in general, when he does stuff like sleeping on top of your pillow while your head is under it (this is a real scenario) it is a form of getting you back

I dont agree with her statement, but I would like to know if this is actually true or not

I think your mother is just trying to discourage you from bugging the cat in her motherly way.

I don't think your cat is smart enough to know that when it is abused, revenge (such as sleeping on top of your pillow) is appropriate.

Don't worry about it, stop annoying your cat, but discipline it when it gets all over your bed.

Yes, they will get revenge on you. I have two cats. One day they wanted tuna fish for lunch, but I gave them chicken instead. As they were leaving for school, they gave me a funny look. I told them to be back home by 11PM. I fell asleep before they got back home. During the night, they ate off my arms and legs. I am confined to an institution now. So, be wary of how you treat your cats.

Cats take short naps and are awake a lot at night.
I can see how this rumor got started.

I do not think that their memories are long enough for thoughts of revenge.

My cat keeps dragging knives out of the kitchen and dropping them in my bath water when I'm not looking. I'm sure he's just trying to be cute though.

You should be VERY careful! Cats can hold grudges for years, my brother should know, he once teased my mom's cat about 2 years ago and that cat has NEVER forgotten about it! She's sweetness itself to everyone else, but if my bro goes anywhere near her she hisses and swipes her claws at him - very entertaining!

I have heard that they suck your breath away when you are sleeping, although I don't know if it is true or not.
Happy CATnapping,

Hope
