I've done both, I have a seven year old, a three year old and a two week old. Until last August I was a working mom, I have to say that I loved both. I loved working outside my home for several reasons including having my own money, spending time with adults without having children around to "interrupt" conversations, etc.. but I also love spending the days with my kids and being the person that is teaching my children the things that they will need to know rather then sending them to daycare, or school, coming home making dinner, getting baths, and of to bed. Both places have there advantages and disadvantages. Society as a general needs to learn to have respect and understanding and not be so judgmental of other peoples lives.

I have always been a working Mom, while the majority of my friends have always been stay at home Moms and this is a topic we don't discuss!!! Both sides feel that they have made the ultimate sacrifice and discussions can become quite heated. I think it may be some form of guilt on both sides that causes these arguments: the working Mom feels guilty for going to work and leaving the children with someone else and the stay at home Mom may feel guilty about the financial stress on the family (or so I've been told).

I'm a SAHM and my best friend is a working mom, we get along great. Now my sister-in-law on the other hand is jealous because I don't work outside the home. Everybody is different.

I think both idol each other. Working wishes to be with their children and stay at home wishes they could contribute $.

both often feel they are judged negatively for their choice--by other moms and by society in general.
