Humans are constantly trying to overtake the natural world, yet we are a part of it and dependent on it. Without the subtle influences of the natural world we would all be truly lost. Society is both formed by and formed around/against the natural world.

I ponder (still not yet a believer) on the Gaia theory: The Earth is a living organism, sick from us humans infecting her. As we humans evolve and grow, Earth wages a sort of battle against us--due in large part because we pose a threat to Earth itself.

the natural world controls society... if lava flows into your village i would expect the fabric would be disrupted and society would move..

it is said that the deepest thinkers came from cold climates.
could that be because they spent more time indoors or because there are fewer insect pests in those climates?
it's survival of the fittest.
