As a Christian, I understand your questioning why it seems people think our faith is so repugnant. I am no religion expert, but I have made observations that might help both of us answer the question you have posed.
1. Too many people talk the talk and don't walk the walk. My seven year old is smart enough to know when daddy has said one thing and done another. When people see us talk about loving others and peace on earth, then we don't practice it, they lose respect for us.
2. People fear what they can't "see." If I can't see it, it doesn't exist.
3. Christianity, and other religions, establishes an absolute moral right and wrong. People want something that tells them whatever they want to do is right. The don't like being held to an external standard.
This is only three reasons that I have the time to put out there. I'm sure I could write a book on this topic.

I'm not threatened by Christianity. I'm not threatened by the message of Jesus (most of which I agree with, by the way--love thy neighbor, help the poor, do unto others, etc.).
I'm threatened by the actions that are being taken in the name of Jesus; I'm threatened by the government being turned into a theocracy; I'm threatened by nuclear weapons and the fate of the environment being in the hands of those who believe we're at the end of days.

Truely I think the reverse is better suited to reality. Non-believers threaten the Christian stand-point of there being only One True Way. They have other religions, or are atheistic, and are not struck down on the spot by the vengeful God that is meant to smite liars and frauds. No non-believer I have ever encountered finds Christianity or the message of Christ threatening in and of itself. It is the follower of it, the Christians themselves with their centuries-long history of persecuting others (ever heard of the Inquisition? the Crusades? the Salem Witch Trials?) that are a potential threat to those not of similar faith.

Obey! Obey is what is threatening to non-believers. Following Jesus means obeying God. Non-believers do not wish to give up what they feel is theirs. They do not want to live by rules that they feel are oppressive. Plus, there are and have been "Christians" who have been hypocritical in there beliefs, which has had an impact on the view of the non-believer. Non-believers would rather live by their own rules, for they feel they know better than anyone else on how to live their own lives. Do not mess with me and I will not mess with you. This only addresses part of the problem. Non-believers also have, in general, their own belief on what happens to you when you die. The fact that God has shown, through the writings of the Bible, what happens when you die, is nothing more than myth and legends. Where is the proof? The Bible was written by man, right? What do they know? It is just a way for one group of people to try to control everyone else.
Lack of understanding, and not wanting to know what Christianity is really about, plus the hypocrisy will be what keeps people away. Plus the fact that there is something that is greater than oneself that expects you total obedience.

First of all, I believe that only some non-Christians feel threatened by Christianity. You can't ever say a whole group will do or say one thing. As far as I know, that kind of total unison just doesn't happen.
However, thoes who feel threatened by Christianity probably feel threatened because they are faced with the decision to either make radical changes in their lifestyle, or face eternal punisment.
That's my take, take it or leave it.
Psy out.

The majority don't feel Christianity 'threatening'. The problem likes with some of the followers of that faith and how they go about things.

Nothing is treatening in this world. The world appears to us as we are. If we have accumulated fear due to different reasons while growing up then anything would appear frightening to us. If we accumulate Love growing up or break through the fears accumulated and see the truth, love in everything, then all is fine. Jesus's message is Jesus's message, nothing threatening, message of love.

The only thing threatening about the "message of Jesus" is the message of intolerance that seems to come with it. Jesus's message of peace, love, and goodwill is far overshadowed by the condemnation and fanaticism of many who misinterpret his words, and preach these misinterpretations.
God Bless.

The message of Jesus PBUH was corrupted by Saul of Tarsus (Paul), and Christians today follow Paul not Jesus and their proper name should be Paulians.

I think it is when people try to force them into thinking a certain way... I believe.. but I hate it when people get in my face and try telling me that I don't believe based on my appearance or something... God gave us FREE WILL, RIGHT? I choose to exercise mine and believe and be annoyed at those that get in my face trying to preach to the choir...
