Because young people are generally kind of ignorant. They think Che must be cool because he fought against "the establishment". The whole mass-murdering communist thug thing just goes over their heads.

Naturally, the status quo of Latin American sociopolitical structures needed some sort of viable oppossition, and Guevara provided that in a charismatic manner.

And kids today, well, they're suckers for charisma, particularly that which is hawked to them by capitalists :P
