This is not a matter of disobeying your parents, it is your life. You are an adult if you want to continue your studies then do it. If you don't you just might wake up 10 years from now working some government job (like your parents want) and ask yourself why you didn't follow your dreams. Talk to your parents and tell them how you feel and that this is the path you want your life to take. If they still aren't supportive then that is their problem. They will get over it someday. It might just take them seeing you happy and successful doing what you want to do to make them realize it.

The word isn't obey - the word is consider. Determine a path you would like to follow. Discuss with your parents why they think you should do as they ask. Let them know what you are considering. Then explain you will consider all the options fully and when you are ready you will explain to them your decision and the reason behind it. The purpose is to get their support for your decision rather than the negative alternative

You must pick what kind of work you want to do because letting others force you into something you do not like Will only bring tons of problems. Stick to your guns and let them know it is your life and although you appreciate what they have done the decision for the future is yours and you have to follow your heart.

all i can say is fallow your heart. ok thats corny but still. if your parents dont like what you want to do, they arent the ones that have to live with a job they dont like. do what you feel is right. research government jobs and if you still dont feel an interest continue your studies.

I would explain to your parents that you don't have any interest in what they are planning for you. You are more apt to succeed in having a career which interests you, than one you are being forced into. Keep up with your studies and you will go far!!! Good Luck!!!

you're 18 so you're an adult who can make decisions without mommy and daddy. do what you want because what you do for a living is something you'll have to do longer than your parents will even be alive. Sorry to be so harsh, but it's totally logical.

No, it is your parents job to get you ready for the world, not to live their life through you. The career choice is yours and will affect your entire life, do what you think is best, your parents will come around.

Well, YOU'RE doing the job, not your parents, so do whatever YOU want! But make sure you let them know that you considered it.

tell your parents you want to be happy and doing that job would not make you happy, it's not wrong to disobey your parents when what they expect crap like that, they cannot control you to thats extent it'sjust not fair, your an adult.Stand up for yourself like one !!!
