When have you crossed the line into fundamentalism? Why do so many people use scripture to justify bigotry, hate, sexism, racism, and homophobia? When does a belief transgress to harmful superstition? If conservative Jews and Muslims were on an island together and the only thing they could eat period, was wild pig, would they just starve? Why do so many religious people frown on homosexuality when it's obvious that some people are truly born intersex with ambiguous genitalia or hermaphroditic?

Fantastic question. I think the finite difference between piety and fundamentalism would be Egocentricity, by which one feels they are superior because of a personally held belief system. Superiority complexes result in a competitive, if not combative attitude toward foreign belief. The point at which piety or 'blind faith' become fundamentalism, may be judged as the point at which the act of belief becomes dominant over belief itself. By using the act of belief as a tool, fundamentalists are able to justify aggression towards foreign belief systems, lifestyles, cultural traits, and minority groups. This idiom of using belief as a tool has ensured that one can absolve ones self of any personal guilt over attacking others, ie minority groups, foreign cultures etc. In a nutshell, faith or piety become fundamentalist when used as a tool to absolve responsibility of attacks against perceived 'outsiders'.

Hope this answers your question!!!

People twist Scripture to justify hate, and they will have to answer for that on Judgement Day. And being fundamental (disiplined in the faith) isn't bad. What is bad is twisted, violent, and evil fundamentalist - which don't really follow a fundamental faith at all (Judeo-Christians and Muslims alike have no true reference to disgusting acts of terrorism).

I know I don't have a problem with homosexuals, but I do have a gigantic concern about them going to Hell (along with all other unforgiven sinners). As for those people that are supposed to be in between genders, they may have "ambiguous genitalia" but they still have either an XX or XY gender. They aren't XX-Y, the DNA just didn't hide the genes for those body parts.

Word have different meaning in our daily lives. Piety is respect for god's infinite wisdom and know the god know more about the right way to live than we ever will. In the dictionary piety and pitiful mean the same. in Native American culture you can get closer to the creator be realizing hoe pitiful we really are. Fundamentalism is taking what is written in the bible literally. Unfortunately some people take it out of context and run with only part of the story. The first person is right we are all hypocrites including him. We should read an study as much as we can about God so that we can overcome our hypocrisy

Truly pious people of any religion are impossible to find. They don't advertise their beliefs. They don't force their beliefs on anyone. They are very secure in their faith. They basically live quiet lives with very few knowing about their piety.
Fundamentalists on the other hand wear their religion like a badge. The proclaim it to all. I think that insecurity is what fuels fundamentalism. The more people of similar beliefs they can gather around the the better. There is safety in numbers for them.
When you can walk amongst a group of people who are completely different from you in any way, without feeling nervous or the need to try and change them, and you can feel comfortable around them with out being threatened. Then you have truly grown as a human being.

Christ himself was fundamentalist. It is not necessarily wrong to be fundamentalist. On an island, why would wild pig would be the only thing they would have to eat? If there were no vegetation there would be no wild pigs there and if there were none of the other thing wild pigs feed on, there would be no wild pigs there. Also, they can eat fish because there are plenty of fish in the sea. Anyway, try to be alittle more intelligent, if possible, when asking questions. You atheists are all comical twits. You should be embarrassed about asking such stupid questions. Furthermore, if you wish to know the truth about something why don't you read some books/ do some reseach and enlighten yourself.

Many tool the bible to their own views, usually by taking a single verse out of context or by turning a blind eye to the other "side of the story".
Would some people starve for their beliefs? Yes, some would.

Some people are born a hermaphrodite, the same as some are born with extra fingers, limbs, etc.
But because someone is born with extra fingers doesn't mean they have to be a pianist so to speak.
A hermaphrodite should use prayer with God to determine their sexual lifestyle instead of a human judgment.

Piety is striving to become truly holy.

Fundamentalism has nothing to do with what you associate it with.

Homosexuality is a serious disorder, no matter what the cause. It's detrimental to society, personal health, and morals.

Due to Adam's sin, all of us today are born with various combinations of positive and negative qualities.

We gain merit with God by overcoming our shortcomings and doing God's will, anyway.

You don't have to be a fundamentalist to understand that only God gives life, so only God has the authority to make rules for our behavior.

If we can't follow the rules in this life, we probably won't follow them in the next, so after we die, we're sent someplace other than heaven, where there are no rules.

That's why hell is considered to be a place of suffering and hopeless chaos.

Scripture is what many people are taught to believe from infancy. Though I personally do not follow particular teachings, most are of the mind that this is what is supposed to be. Their way is professed to be the One True Way, and therefore, it is for them. Most give in unquestioningly to what they are told, basing belief on the biased words of long dead hermits instead of their own ideals. Then others merely want a prominent historical book or figure such as a holy text to support them in thier own efforts to be bigots.

cuz every man on this earth is goin to make it on his own, other people judgement really hurts but they are nothing but crap
I think relegious is something and beig judgemental is another thing, and if i was believing in certain believe that dont justify that i automatically make everybody like me,cuz every human is different from the others he is his unique self who tries to find peace, the most important thing ,just dont loose the glowing light inside of u the light of humanity and civilization

People use a lot of things to justify hate, not just scripture.
For example, a lot of atheists have written here that they hate Christians, and they justify it with many reasons. But the fact is that they come in contact with Christians everyday, who have never wronged them.
