I believe that if humans can have a soul, so can animals and plants & indeed all living things.

Animals do have souls but they don't have a spirit. We humans are triune: Spirit, soul (mind, will and emotions), and body. And there are animals in heaven! God has chariots pulled by horses, Jesus is coming in a white horse, there's weird animals that we don't know about worshiping around the throne of God! So nobody can prove my Tootsie is not gonna be there. And I can't prove it will, but I choose my hope. So if God loves animals that much, we should take good care of them, there's lots of scriptures referring to not mistreating your animals. Jesus is called the Lion of Judah, The lamb of God, etc. There's a scripture in Genesis that says that Adam was looking amongst the animals for a help mate and he couldn't find one,(Why would he be looking for a helpmate that couldn't fellowship with him? This is why; It also says the serpent could talk (before the fall everything was different) Thus I believe that all animals could talk! I can't understand exactly how that worked, but you can't prove this is not true either! Cool huh? I've looked into this a lot because I'm writing a book for kids based on these ideas how the world was before sin, it's amazing. You should visit this website: http://creationevidence.org It's a museum that has fossils proving man and dinosaur lived contemporaneously! They have the coolest section of the Earth model in the beginning. Check it out, it's all scientifically done.
Hope you enjoy my thoughts!

I read your blog, are you pissed of all the time about everything? Anyway, I hope they have souls, and yes I am a Christian(which I know really pisses you off). I would love to see my precious pets that have passed away. I know that they had souls, they had the capability to love so yes I believe they have souls. And no it's not an excuse to mistreat them, people mistreat things, and animals, and other people for lots of reasons. Self-centeredness, meanness, misinformation, some people don't need any reason at all to mistreat animals, two legged or four legged.

Generally people who believe animals don't have souls also believe in the importance of stewardship of the Earth and would not intentionally hurt an animal unless for food or survival.
If we are talking CHRISTianity, I am not sure why anyone would believe they don't have souls. A soul in the Bible can be described as the emotions and the intellect. It is obvious that they can think and feel. So they do have a soul.
Perhaps they are refering to the spirit when they say soul. The spirit is what makes a man in the image of God (remember God is a spirit John 4:24). Man was made in the image of God, not animals. So they do not have a spirit, but they do have a soul.
Hope this helps.

This really depends on how you were raised, and I'm sure genetics plays a part in it. I'm not sure if anybody has a soul, but I know that animals think and feel just like anything else. Some people were raised to believe that mankind was the epitome of life on Earth, and will steadfastly reject any idea than an animal can be more than walking stupidity. How stubborn someone is and what they've been taught from birth, as well as how compassionate they are in general, will all be factors here.

People have a superiority complex. I eat meat, not because I think I'm better, because I'm an omnivore and it's natural to eat meat. But I hate it when people mistreat animals. I once had a teacher or someone tell me in school that if there was a fire that you shouldn't go back to get a toy or pet, because those things were "replaceable." I almost felt the need to throw up after they said that. I can't bring myslef to kill anything without good reason, if it's a possible threat to my life, that would be an exception. I don't kill bugs, I catch them and put them back outside. I think that even plants would have a soul and go to heaven, if there is one, but I don't think that they feel pain, so I don't feel as bad killing them, although I do feel a little guilty sometimes.

No, it's not a reason to mistreat them. If there is such a thing as a soul, I think animals having them is just as likely as people having them. I don't get why so many people think we are better than any other animal on the planet - because we ARE animals. We're actually the worst because we are the ones who are destroying the earth, not those animals that are "below us".

Animals do have souls and I wish people wouldn't mistreat them.
There was a Dog one time crying at my door late one night when it was a thunderous rain. I gave the dog something to eat and drink and let him in my house.
The next day I let the dog outside and he disappeared and was never seen again. Was this Dog and Angel or was this Dog just lost will remain a mystery because where I live there are no dogs. I personally believe that An Angel guided that dog to my house for a pit stop because that dog was on a journey and where he was going is beyond my thoughts.

Man has dominion over all the animals, but don't think for a minute that the Lord doesn't know it when people abuse and mistreat animals. There is never an acceptable excuse to abuse a helpless animal and people who do it should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law and repent of it.

This is something the Roman catholic church is responsible for. that is a statement that they made and people have used it ever since as an excuse to be cruel to animals.
Mind they probably were cruel before too but the Rc church made that statement. I cant see anything in scripture telling me that animals dont have souls, we do know that it was man that fell from Gods grace and not animals, although everything is under the curse.

If your house was on fire, and you had a choice of saving only one; your favorite toy, your pet, or a person, which would you choose? And why?
I value animals less than I do people, but I don't like to see anyone, any animal, or even a toy hurt. A Soul is something special, and is worth saving. You sound like a good soul, don't let cruel people change that.
