I'd like to know too. I live near there, but have never considered fishing it. I didn't know that there was trout in there. do they stock it? Is there bass in there?

I used to live nearby, (off of Union Avenue in San Jose) and I fished there occasionally. I only caught bluegill, crappie and small mouth bass. I have seen people pull out some good catfish. The lake is pretty darn shallow and I don't think it supports any trout.

For trout, you'll have to go further down the creek trail to another park, (it's only a couple of miles from Vasona) to the percolation ponds. Here's what the park website says about it:

At the midpoint of the trail is Los Gatos Creek County Park, an 80-acre urban park encompassing six percolation ponds. The northernmost pond is used for fishing and non-power boating. This pond is stocked with Rainbow Trout from November through April. Black Bass, Catfish, Blue Gill, Crappie and Carp are also caught in the pond. The middle pond is designated for model boaters. The remaining ponds offer visitors the opportunity to view many types of water fowl. Please note that feeding water fowl is restricted; see Waterfowl Management for more information. Casting ponds are also available, open to the public daily from 8:00 a.m. to sunset for fly and plug casting. Targets are available for accuracy practice. No hooks or dogs allowed within the casting area. Use caution when walking in the "back cast" area. (Here is the link to the whole description, http://www.sccgov.org/portal/site/parks/menuitem.244564f66e6d425580b558bb35cda429?path=%2Fv7%2FParks+and+Recreation%2C+Department+of+(DEP)%2FFind+a+Park%2FVasona+Lake)

Truly, however, for the best fishing in that immediate area, just head the other direction up the trail to Lexington Resevoir, (just off Hwy 17 going towards Santa Cruz). Lexington is also stocked with rainbow trout in the winter and you're a lot less likely to get hit in the back of the head with a frisbee!

I live in Morgan Hill and belong to a club called bass-n-tubes and from fishing it i have never caught any catfish. If you want to catch catfish go to San Luis reservoir to check 12 off hwy 152 about 45 min away or try here where i live behind Parkway Lakes R.V. park in Morgan hill. They been catching cats on night crawlers.
