I live in Compton for the past 20 years and the only thing white are the sheriffs, lawyers , judges ,parole officers. They will think your lost or your an undercover cop trying to buy dope or a great person to get. It was number 1 for the murder rate. I have not seen any white families in Compton since the 1950's. You do not want to go there.

I been to Compton and I had no problems. But it is mainly Mestizo now and they tend to like whites. I heard in the 90s though when it was basicly all black, the black cops use to beat up whites for no reason
It is real clean there too, I dont see how it is "Da hood" if you dont have trash everywhere. Its cleaner then alot of rich neighborhoods. I think its just ice cube trying to make it look bad when its really not

You're an idealist if you believe that gang bangers will KNOW that you're not prejudice. Of course, it's dangerous for anyone who is obviously different to go to Compton AT NIGHT.
You're obviously trying to tempt fate by chosing to go there at night--when it would be safer for you to visit during the day, if you wanted to see Compton. If you decide to go anyway, I guess that you'll be featured in the L.A. Times.

It is a bad idea.
Even though not all residents of South Central LA are prejudice, there are those who are out on the street, that ARE, or just plain violent.
This may not be your intention at all, but going to Compton in the evening would give the idea to those in a gang that you are arrogant and think you can handle..the hood!
I know this may not be true, but it is how you will be percieved. And the gang members will try their hardest to prove their point of "You CANNOT handle the hood"
Please....don't do this. =]

I'm white, and I used to drop off some of my younger coworkers after work so they didn't have to take the bus. There are some really cool families living there who have made nice homes for themselves, but if you dont know your way around, you can make a wrong turn and end up in a really sketchy area.

It is a low income area with a reputation of high violence and gang activity. The low income does not make it bad; it is the abundance of people who lack good judgment that makes it dangerous.

Well, if your into drive-bys,muggings and or have a bullet proof vest and your own oozy with a couple extra clips, It may not be such a bad Idea.

the area is predominantly inhabited by blacks just like alvarado is by mexicans.so you will be a fish out of water in that place esp at night.
its the crimes and gangs that goes on in those places that makes it unsafe

let me put it to you this way, the police are afraid to go there. Im sorry, i dont go to places where there are no cops around, or where they are afraid to go.
